Alfonse Karr Bamboo (syn. Alphonse Karr) is a very fast growing clumping bamboo which is super cold tolerant and drought resistant.
New shoots are a pink colour and the culms have yellow and green stripes.
Alfonse Karr Bamboo can grow very quickly to 4-6m, depending on the conditions.
It is a prolific shooter that quickly fomms a bushy clump which is ideal for use as a hedge or a screen.

A quick trim can keep it in the desired shape.
As with all bamboo, once the shoots reach their full height they never grow any taller.
This means that you only need to cut each culm once and it will stay at that height forever.
Therefore the hedging process is extremely quick and a once a year job best performed at the end of summer.

It can also just be left to form a very thick screen.
Tolerant of full sun and part shade, Alphonse Karr is fairly drought tolerant once established.

Non-invasive. This bamboo is NOT a running bamboo, it will not invade the adjacent areas of your garden.
